Upcycling ~ apparently I'm not the first to think of it. I'm totally fine with that.

Saturday morning garage salin' for the last year with a couple of my ya yas has several times landed us some funky fun mardi gras beads for L's artist son Matthew.   Being on the lookout for them kept them floating around my brain, and I sat up in bed from a sound sleep one night after seeing in my dreams the beaded picture that the following will soon become.

This is just rough sketched and painted but soon enough it will be all asparkle.

I went online to google glue, as in which would be best for painted canvas and plastic...
and that's when I found THIS.

Specifically this one~

Which made me all giddy inside
because
I finally have proof the voices in my head are real.
Or ya know, at least someone else walking around
thinks like I do.
Which might be scary for the rest of y'all,
but Squee for me!

Also?

It addresses something that is becoming ridiculously prevalent
on social media sites:

Copying.
(especially in the beading world)

Seriously?
I wish everyone would get over themselves.
We are not new.
Nothing we do is new.
It is entirely possible for 2 or 100 people
to have similar ideas,
to create similar works,
to be inspired in like ways.

It doesn't discount that ideas are original to each person.
It doesn't mean someone copied.
It doesn't take away from one person
because someone else made something similar.

People throw their ideas and art
out into the internet world
like they are first
and should be the only,
like there aren't a grazillion
other people walking around with
creative abilities and ideas
and dreams.

There's room enough for everyone, y'all.

I'm not saying copying doesn't happen.
I'm saying that an artist,
someone who creates from a NEED to create
doesn't waste time caring
if she is copied.

The good ones
are too busy moving on
to the next idea,
the next creation,
the next expression of themselves.

And now for yesterday's beads~

Because your light?

Let it shine.

  1. I am so glad you addressed copying. And you hit the nail on the head, thank you. Some will admit that they are copying, and usually be too embarrassed to do it again. But what does it matter? We all learn by copying at some point or another.

  2. Amen sistah! My life is too full to think that I am the only one with great ideas. Every thing under the sun is derivative. Everything. And I love that creative use for those plastic beads. Fun stuff! Enjoy the day. And shine on! Erin

  3. I agree with every single thing you said - which scares me just a little bit. But . . . I like that feeling.

  6. Love the beaded painting and can't wait to see where you go with yours. GREAT IDEA!!! You were right on about the copyright issue. Some people seem more concerned with that than with their artistic endeavors. I think Jean Power was brave in posting that on her blog. She's sure getting the flak for it now!

  7. Wow, you are the third post this week that addressed this issue (Jean Power was one of them) I am so glad that it is slowly starting to come to fruition that there is nothing new on this planet. The picture is beautiful. Off to read Tracy's post!
